The anniversary was a six-day event, with a jam-packed schedule that included a parade, concerts, literary exercises, a bonfire, track and field competition, yacht races, fireworks, dedication of a memorial, and a pageant, among many other happenings. Dignitaries such as Governor Channing Harris Cox, Senator Henry Cabot Lodge, Senator David Walsh, and Congressman A. Piatt Andrew attended the ceremonies. A fleet of naval vessels was present in the harbor including Alexander Hamilton, a Coast Guard training ship; U.S.S. Langley, the only airplane carrier in the Navy; U.S.S. Shawmut; U.S.S. Mahan; U.S.S. Mallard; and U.S.S. Lark, as well as several Coast Guard ships.
