1745A company of 45 men from Gloucester under Captain Charles Byles participated in King George’s War.Government and Public Service, Military

King George’s War was the third of the French and Indian Wars. During this conflict, Captain Charles Byles’ company participated in the capture of Louisburg on Cape Breton Island. French ships headquartered at this fort were seen as a danger to the Gloucester fishing fleet.
