William Robinson of Ipswich purchased the 90-foot vessel, which was brought from Jaffna, Sri Lanka, and arrived in Gloucester on August 2, 1938, where it was greeted by a crowd of over 100 people. The Sri Lankan crew stayed in Gloucester until November 1938, when three of the five members sailed with Captain Sterling Hayden aboard the Florence C. Robinson to Tahiti.
