John Hays Hammond Jr. hired Harry Martin as an assistant and Martin moved from New York City to live at Hammond’s castle. Martin invited poet friends from New York, including Ken Elmslie and Garrett Lansing to visit and meet Charles Olson. Gloucester became a popular destination for poets. Artists, including Mary Shore, and poets came together regularly to socialize at Hammond’s castle.
