Cecilia Beaux was an accomplished painter during her time and the first female teacher at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.

Beaux bought land from the Eastern Point Associates in 1905 and started building her summer home after summering in Gloucester with her family growing up. She was a member of the “Dabsville” group, which was a small collective of artists and intellectuals that resided on Eastern Point and were considered “other” by the social norms at the time.
