Hershey returned to study with Lester Stevens and Aldro T. Hibbard in 1924. Soon he was teaching and established the Sandy Bay Art School with Rockport artist, Stanley Woodward (1890-1970). Hershey also taught at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design and, after serving in World War II, at the Rhode Island School of Design. He served as president of the Rockport Art Association from 1947 until 1951
