Beatrice K. Corliss was an accountant at Birdseye and an assistant treasurer of the Consolidated Lobster Company. She served for four years on the Gloucester School Committee and was elected to the Gloucester City Council. She was elected as the first female mayor of the city and served from 1955-1959. Afterward, she was elected to the Massachusetts State Legislature in 1960.
