Cape Ann Anchor Works originated as a blacksmith shop owned by Benjamin Haskell in 1823, where he made anchors for the Gloucester fishing fleet. In 1859, he partnered with others to open a forge on Vincent’s Cove. The company was incorporated in 1866 as the Cape Ann Anchor Works. They continued to make anchors until 1916 and expanded their operations to supply the military with marine forgings during World Wars I and II.
