The Cape Ann Camera Club was organized in 1902 and wrote its constitution in 1903. One of the founding members was Herman Spooner, who captured many historic moments on Cape Ann. His photos, which are now at the Cape Ann Museum, were shown at the Boston Society of Arts and Crafts and featured in traveling exhibitions throughout the country.

The Club rented a room at 119 Main Street, with the original purpose of “… the advancement among its members of the knowledge of photography in all its branches and the promotion of social intercourse among those interested in photography.”
