Starting on April 19, 1861, selectman David Allen, Jr. raised a second company in addition to Company G. It became attached to the Twelfth Regiment as Company K and was the first body of three years’ men enlisted in town. They left town on May 4, by the steamer Mystery. Each soldier was given a copy of the Bible. Of the hundred men who served in the company during the war, 10 were killed in battle, one was missing (supposed dead), 36 were wounded, six died, and three deserted.
