The lecture was given at the Elm Street Church on Wednesday, October 25, 1865, six months after the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. According to the Cape Ann Advertiser, “his lecture occupied more than two hours in the delivery, was listened to with great attention, and frequently applauded.”
