The Hammond Museum was officially incorporated on March 15, 1930. John Hays Hammond Jr. said at the time “It is my purpose and interest to form a museum around the collection which I have made in Europe and to construct proper edifices to house these collections, the intent being to allow the public who have not had the opportunities that Iahve had of travel and study, to learn first hand from valuable and authentic museum specimens, which I have collected abroad.”
