Harriet “Hattie” Johnson was Robert Freeman’s great-granddaughter and was born at 302 Essex Avenue, the family home, and lived there for most of her life. She was a laundress and over time sold acres of her family’s property to the City of Gloucester, the Eastern Railroad Company, and other neighbors.
