John James Babson died on April 13, 1886, at the age of 75. He served for 30 continuous years on the school committee, as a selectman in 1859, a representative in 1859,1860, 1876, and 1877, a state senator in 1861-1862, and Bank Commissioner in 1864-1865. He is well known for his pivotal work, History of the Town of Gloucester, Cape Ann, and his research on Gloucester’s history.
