The book recounts Prince’s childhood when she worked as a domestic servant to help support her family in Gloucester and continues with her life and work in Russia, where she lived with her husband Nero Prince who had a position as the doorman at the court of two Russian Czars. After her husband died, Prince spent the rest of her life working for the abolitionist cause and women’s rights, including two missions to Jamaica to assist the recently freed Black people there.
