NOAA Fisheries approved the New England Fishery Management Council’s Framework 53 which the entire quota for Gulf of Maine cod was slashed by 75 percent to approximately 386 metric tons. This came after an assessment that showed fishing stock was even more imperiled than previously believed. The deadline for paying for at-sea monitors by the fishing industry was extended into the next year.
