“Oak Grove’s major significance lies in the fact that it was a collaborative effort by two pioneer landscape architects in America, … Robert Morris Copeland and Horace William Shaler Cleveland. “ It is a “small but representative example of the romantic landscaped cemetery, the result of a movement to depart from the old crowded central church-yards, and to provide areas not only for the disposal of the dead but to enhance the environment of the living.”
