Peter N. Anastas worked as a freelance writer and published his first book in 1973, Glooskap’s Children: Encounters with the Penobscot Indians of Maine. He then joined the staff of Action, Inc., where he worked as a social worker for thirty years, while continuing to write and publish throughout his life. He wrote the weekly column, “This Side of the Cut,” in the Gloucester Daily Times and published nine books including When Gloucester Was Gloucester: Toward an Oral History of the City.
