In 1913, Buswell was invited to tour with an American company as an actor and met Hammond, Sleeper, and Andrew while in Boston. The group was referred to as “B.A.S.H.” for their initials.

Buswell joined Andrew’s American Field Service and was awarded the French Croix-de-Guerre for his bravery between June and October 1915. He later returned to America to assist Hammond Jr. in his work on radio control. He built the home he called Stillington Hall above Hammond’s property in Freshwater Cove in Gloucester.
