Reverend Forbes replaced Reverend Chandler, who had died. He became a minister as the fracture was taking place between members of the First Parish and members of the newly established Universalist Church. Forbes was a native of Westborough and a graduate of Harvard and remained the minister in Gloucester until he died in 1804.
