The Siege of Pemaquid was an attack on English colonists by the French with a large band of Abenaki warriors on the northernmost border of the Massachusetts Bay Colony (present-day Maine). The border of Massachusetts moved south to Falmouth, Maine as a result, and colonists from Northern Maine relocated to Essex County, including Gloucester, considered a militarily advantageous location.
