The Andrea Gail departed from Gloucester on Sept 20, 1991, bound for the Grand Banks. On October 28, when returning home, the ship encountered a storm. An extensive rescue effort was launched by both the U.S. and Canadian Coast Guards but to no avail as all six crew members were lost. The fate of the Andrea Gail was depicted in the book, The Perfect Storm, and the movie of the same name.
