The Mass took place at the home of John Dooly at the top of Reynard Street on New Year’s Day, 1849. After that, Mass was celebrated at intervals in the Town Hall until 1855, when Reverend Shahan of Salem purchased the old Baptist Church and moved it to the present site of Saint Ann Church for a Catholic church.
