Publicover invited prosperous families to stay at the hotel for a month or two at a time. The men would go on fishing expeditions and the women would take painting lessons, and art exhibitions were held in the lobby. Working artists could no longer afford to stay at the old boarding house mainstay from decades past, however, the well-to-do guests supported the arts.
