The Fourth of July celebrations in 1902 and 1903 were huge events that were celebrated with a bonfire, Antiques and Horribles parades, and a fireworks display, all organized by a city committee. Mayor James E. Tolman sent out invitations to the festivities, which have been preserved by the Gloucester City Archives.
