Speaking to an audience of 1,500, including representatives of the French Mediterranean Fishermen’s Wives Association, were the GFWA’s president, Angela Sanfilippo, Senator John Kerry, and Cardinal Bernard Law. Senator Ted Kennedy sent videotaped remarks. GFWA spent 20 years raising the $500,000 cost. The statue, depicting a woman and her two children awaiting for her loved one’s return, was designed by Morgan Faulds Pike. It was dedicated to honor the women that have been the soul of the fishing industry.
