Samuel Gott, a weaver from Wenham, bought eight six-acre lots of land on Halibut Point. The house he built, which is said to be the oldest gambrel-roofed house remaining on Cape Ann, has remained in the Gott family for nine generations. It still stands today near the entrance to Halibut Point State Park.
