The Hawthorne Inn and Cottages were located in East Gloucester and built by hotel operator and real estate developer George Stacy who “took pains to create in his joyous sprawl of a dozen buildings and more, with casino, vaudeville, dancing, games, boating, and concerts by German contraltos on tour” (Garland, 113-114).
