A group of English Pilgrims departed from Plymouth, England aboard the Mayflower on September 6. The intended destination was Virginia where they planned to start a colony. After a journey of 66 days, with 102 passengers and 30 crew members, they made landfall at Cape Cod near present-day Provincetown, which was more than 600 miles off course, on November 21.
