Six years after Rose Baker’s death, the center named after the senior advocate, also known as the “Iron Lady of Gloucester,” opened on May 12, 2001. The cost of $1.5 million was split between the City and private donations. However, that amount did not include furniture which needed further fundraising. Attending the opening ceremony included U.S. Representative John Tierney, State Senator Bruce Tarr, State Representative Anthony Verga, City officials, and over 200 citizens.
