The dedication occurred on June 22, 1871. Addison Gilbert, the chairman of the building committee, addressed the large crowd, a choir sang, and Reverend Robert P. Rogers offered a prayer. This dedication was particularly important, as the first Town Hall, built only four years ago, burned in a fire two years after it was constructed.
