Plans for a third meeting house began in 1697. The town raised £253 in taxes for construction. At a town meeting on May 6, the Selectmen were voted the power to “provide vitls and drink for as many men as the selectmen shall think conveniant for the raising of ye sd meeting house upon the town’s account.” (Town Records, 32)
