Gloucester Town Records, 1642-1715. Vol. 1. Gloucester, Mass., 1715.

There were 82 grants of land established on the eastern side of the Cut, while 31 residents west of the Cut were able to choose their own lots. The men who received grants were allowed to cut wood for their own use on this land, and were required to provide free passage through them to anybody who was traveling to the ocean for related activities.
