Formed in March, the lodge was chartered by Grand Master Joseph Warren of the Massachusetts Grand Lodge. Paul Revere was one of the signatories. The first meeting of the lodge was held at Judith Sargent Murray’s home; James Prentice’s tavern on Middle Street became the regular meeting place until 1790. The first master was Barnett Harkin, the village schoolmaster.
