Varian Semiconductor Associates’ 2.5-megawatt windmill, was the largest in the northeast. The blades stretch 160 feet in length, the tower stands over 300 feet tall, and the overall structure rises more than 400 feet. Two more 400-foot tall turbines were installed for Gloucester Engineering, which granted the city net metering credits to reduce the municipal electric cost.
The wind turbines were expected to bring energy cost savings, including annual savings of up to $450,000.
