William H. Marston enlisted in the American Civil War at age seventeen and saw action in New York and North Carolina. He was wounded and was discharged in 1864. He was a well-known figure in town as he drove a grocery wagon for 40 years. Active in veteran organizations, his passing was felt throughout the community.
